FORMIGEN Metformin Tablet 500mg
Indications / Uses:
Metformin 500mg is indicated for the management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults and children 10 years of age and older, particularly when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to achieve adequate blood glucose control. It may be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medications or insulin.
Dosage/Directions for use:
Adults: The usual starting dose is 500mg once or twice daily with meals. The dose may be increased gradually based on blood glucose response. The maximum recommended daily dose is 2,550mg for immediate-release tablets, divided into multiple doses.
Children 10 years and older: The usual starting dose is 500mg once daily, with gradual dose adjustments as needed. The maximum recommended daily dose is 2,000mg.
Administration: Metformin is administered orally and should be taken with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Swallow the tablet whole with water and follow the prescribed dosing schedule.
Contraindications: should not be used in individuals with hypersensitivity to metformin or any component of the formulation. It is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, metabolic acidosis (including diabetic ketoacidosis), or conditions that may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Temporary discontinuation may be necessary before procedures involving iodinated contrast media or major surgery.
