Indications / Uses:
It is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), including essential hypertension and renovascular hypertension, to help lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications. It is also used in the management of symptomatic heart failure, where it helps improve heart function, reduce the frequency of hospitalizations, and enhance long-term survival.
Dosage/Directions for use:
Adults (18 years and older): Start with 5 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to 10–20 mg once daily depending on the response. Maximum: 40 mg per day.
Children (6–17 years): Start with 0.08 mg/kg once daily, up to 5 mg. The dose may be adjusted as needed, up to a maximum of 40 mg per day.
Administration: Enalapril maleate is administered orally and can be taken with or without meals.
Contraindications: Enalapril maleate should not be used in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to enalapril, other angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, or any ingredient in the formulation. It is contraindicated in patients with a previous history of angioedema related to ACE inhibitor therapy, as well as those with hereditary or idiopathic angioedema. Use of enalapril is also contraindicated during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy because of the potential risk of fetal injury.
