HISTAMOX - Diphenhydramine Syrup 12.5mg/5ml 60ml

Indications / Uses: 

Diphenhydramine Syrup 12.5mg is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with allergic conditions, including sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the skin caused by seasonal or perennial allergies. It is also used in the management of urticaria (hives) and other mild allergic skin reactions. Diphenhydramine is a first-generation antihistamine that works by blocking the effects of histamine, helping relieve allergy symptoms. It may also be used for the temporary relief of cough associated with minor throat or airway irritation, prevention of motion sickness, temporary relief of occasional sleeplessness, and as an adjunct in the management of mild parkinsonism and drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms.

Dosage/Directions for use:

Adults and Adolescents (12 years and older): The recommended dose is 10–20 mL (25–50 mg) every 4–6 hours, as needed. The maximum daily dose is 300 mg (120 mL) within 24 hours.

Children (6–12 years): The recommended dose is 5–10 mL (12.5–25 mg) every 4–6 hours, as needed.

Children (2–6 years): Use only if prescribed by a healthcare professional, with the dose determined according to age and body weight.

Children below 2 years: Diphenhydramine syrup is not recommended, unless specifically prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Do not exceed the recommended dose. The maximum recommended treatment duration is 7 days, unless otherwise directed by a healthcare professional.

Administration: Diphenhydramine is administered orally and may be taken with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, it may be taken with food or milk to help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. The medication should be taken exactly as prescribed or as directed on the product label. Tablets or capsules should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. For liquid formulations, use an appropriate measuring device to ensure accurate dosing. 

Contraindications: It should not be used in individuals with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to diphenhydramine, other antihistamines, or any component of the formulation. It is contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, severe respiratory disease, or acute asthma attack. The medication should not be used concurrently with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days after discontinuation of MAOI therapy. Use should also be avoided in patients with medical conditions that may be aggravated by the sedative or anticholinergic effects of diphenhydramine.
